ABOUT
Lobo Counseling was founded as a response to a need in the community that the owner, Rachel Sanabria, noticed after practicing therapy in the Madison area for several years: a need for compassionate, person centered therapy with a competence in the understanding and appreciation of how cultural differences impact mental health. Lobo Counseling is dedicated to making sure the whole person- their generational history, their cultural background, their family of origin, their environment, their socioeconomic circumstances, and so on, is honored and centered in the forefront of their mental health treatment. Lobo Counseling believes in warm, non stigmatizing, and non judgemental therapy where a person and their symptoms are treated, rather than reducing a person down to their diagnosis. So sit back and get comfortable, grab a coffee or a tea, and get ready to engage in conversational and relaxed mental health care.
Hello
My name is Rachel Sanabria, LCSW, owner and sole therapist of Lobo Counseling.
“Sensitivity isn't being wimpy. It's about being so painfully aware that a flea landing on a dog is like a sonic boom.” This is a quote from a favorite musician of mine, Jeff Buckley. I see sensitivity as a strength, not a deficit. As a therapist, I work hard to help my clients understand that oftentimes the parts of themselves that they view as weak are really their greatest strengths. The stories we tell ourselves about ourselves are very important. They are the lens through which we view everything- they color our world. The problem is that a lot of the time the narratives we have about ourselves are simply not true.
For some of us they have been informed by past experiences and past trauma, for others of us anxiety and depression have infiltrated our stories. I will help you to find the truest and most authentic version of your story. My goal in therapy is never to fix anyone, because I believe people cannot be broken.
My goal is to help you develop insight into who you are as a person, what you value, and what a more fulfilled version of you might look like. I will guide you along in the change process with deep empathy, nonjudgement, warmth, and a touch of light heartedness and humor when needed. Therapy isn’t about fixing, it’s about healing.
